After Loss

Navigating life after losing a loved one to mental/brain health illness can be confusing and extremely challenging. Feelings of grief and devastation can be overwhelming, and i understand is here to support you through providing compassionate comfort, hope, and understanding to something so difficult to understand.

Memorial Gifts to i understand

One of the ways we help support those who have lost a loved one is through memorial donations gifted to i understand in honor of their loved one. These gifts have ranged from $50 to $50,000. We will provide a candle, flowers, donation envelopes, a help card, and pink hearts at any requested funeral or memorial service. We also provide notecards, envelopes, and stamps for family to write notes of appreciation to those who have given a memorial gift.

We work with the family to suggest ways they can put these donations to work towards our organization’s mission, beliefs, and passion while remembering their loved one. We also gift the family with a “grief box” complete with the book, i understand Pain, Love, and Healing after Suicide, an information guide, a grief guide, a pink heart stress ball, a therapy coloring book, and a LOVE NEVER DIES standing plaque.

Some of the ways families have used these funds through i understand have been funding a support group for a year, placing an “In Memory Of” sticker inside our books, providing resources to advocates, and even creating a mental wellness exhibit at the Grand Rapids Children’s Museum in honor of Kimberly Mutch Bergner who lost her life to postpartum depression.
